Beach Wedding in St Francis Bay, Eastern Cape
Quick answer
Is a beach wedding in St Francis Bay a good idea?
Yes, with one big caveat: the wind. On this coast you're out in the elements, and wind is the one that pushes plans around most. The good news is that St Francis has a real variety of beaches, wide open sand in some places and small rocky outcrops in others, so there's usually somewhere that works. Dylan and Andrea's week was wild. Biblical, honestly. But the forecast for their day looked good, and it was right: a beautiful ceremony on the beach, with a cool onshore wind keeping everyone comfortable. Keep an eye on the forecast that last week. And sort out a sheltered plan B with your venue before you need it.
We all love a good story, and the story of Dylan and Andrea is a great one. Andrea was in the process of making plans to join her parents in Atlanta, Georgia before meeting Dylan for breakfast for the first time. It was never supposed to develop into anything serious, but the heart wants what it wants and Dylan also knew what he wanted. The future was already planned however, and it involved a flight across the Atlantic to America for Andrea. After spending time together and doing some soul searching, they both realised that what they have is something special and worth preserving. They soon moved in together and haven’t been apart since, enjoying new experiences and being a family.
St Francis is a special place for Dylan and Andrea. Dylan has been coming to the St Francis Links for many years, so it was an obvious choice as a wedding destination. St Francis is always a great venue. It really is blessed with a variety of beautiful beaches. From wide open spaces to small rocky outcrops, you are literally spoilt for choice. Planning a beach wedding though takes guts. Along the shores of the Eastern Cape we are open to the elements, with wind being the most dominant of these. Days before the wedding we experienced biblical type winds. My second photographer, Ernst had to rescue his trampoline from the roof of his house, just to give you an idea. The forecast looked good though and we enjoyed a beautiful ceremony on the beach with a cool on shore wind to keep us comfortable.

Frequently asked questions
Is St Francis Bay windy?
It can be. Wind is the most dominant element along this coast. In the days before this wedding the wind was strong enough to lift a trampoline onto a roof, and then the wedding day itself was calm and comfortable.
Where can you get married in St Francis Bay?
The beaches themselves are the draw. On this blog you'll also find a wedding from The Quaysyde, where guests went by barge to a small beach, and a wedding at Cape St Francis Resort in nearby Cape St Francis.
Do you photograph weddings in St Francis Bay?
Yes. St Francis Bay is close to our home in Jeffreys Bay, and Craig photographs weddings and family shoots there.
