Tala Game Reserve Wedding: Wendy and Greg
Part 1
Tala Game Reserve was our first wedding at a game park and one we were looking forward to with much anticipation. As photographers, game reserves have always had a certain appeal to them. Attending a wedding at one is a luxury we were very keen to indulge in. Greg and Wendy are a great couple and good friend’s of ours, who we’ve had the opportunity of photographing in London before. During a group ski trip to Courchevel in February 2009, Wendy and Greg returned from a romantic lunch at the very top of the mountain where he had proposed marriage, only to declare after jubilant congratulations: “You guys are shooting our wedding in South Africa, at a Game Reserve!”. This is a woman who knows what she wants!
At the back of every couple’s mind as their wedding day approaches is the one aspect we have absolutely no control over; the weather. No matter how precise the wedding planning has been, the weather is quite literally in the hands of the Gods. Most people associate lovely weather with sunshine and blue skies. This is particularly true if the wedding is planned outdoors. At our friends’ Greg and Wendy’s wedding at Tala Game Reserve, the Weather Gods must have been spoken to often and with great vigour, because cometh the day and there was not a cloud in site with the temperature boasting a balmy 30 degrees in the shade. Looking out over a watering hole, the venue attracted varied wildlife to bare witness to the ceremony, albeit from afar. There certainly seemed to be a few lustful gazes from some of the guests at the expanse of water being utilised by some of the game bordering the perimeter.
