Winter Wedding Inspiration {Ask the Experts}

Like magic a guest blog post appeared in my inbox as a puff of purple wedding inspiration…

We have been planning to do an “Ask The Experts” series for a while now and have put the word out to our vendors to submit feature articles – Andri has been the first to step up to the plate. Andri Benson is a wedding planner based in London and she has designed a beautiful purple inspiration board using some of our images as well as written a thoughtful article on why people hire planners for their weddings.

Winter Wedding Mood Board | Purple
Purple makes a great warm colour for winter weddings; don’t just stick to one shade, layer different ones from lilacs to aubergines to give depth and contrast. To add to the Wintery feel use white sprayed branches to hang sparkly decorations and scatter crystals at the bases of your floral displays.  Ruffles are all the rage at the moment; great fun for your dress and as inspiration for your cake. For your flowers use bunches of calla lilies to echo the ruffles too. What I love the most about weddings at this time of year is how much you can play with the lighting to create different moods. Use lots of candles during the reception and then funky coloured lighting for the evening to really get that party started.

What are the benefits of hiring a Wedding Planner?
When most couples think of a wedding planner it seems that inevitably they will think that to hire one is an expensive luxury of the rich and famous, but these days there are a number of wedding planners and coordinators out there that offer a range of services from full wedding planning packages, on the day co-ordination to consultations by the hour making it an affordable option for many.
It is said that on average it takes 250 hours to plan a wedding, if that was a working week it would be almost 6 weeks. For many this will be the biggest party you have ever arranged and you will be catering for a range of guests young and old. Whatever scale of wedding there will be a number of suppliers to deal with, family politics to contend with and the general stress that goes with hosting a party that you will be the centre of attention at.

So what can a wedding planner do for you?
Well to begin with they will save you time as they know the industry and suppliers. They will have personally met all the suppliers they recommend and can match them according to your needs.
They know how to keep you on budget and can recommend to you the best areas to spend your money so you don’t get carried away. There is also the potential to save you money as they are able to negotiate discounts and better rates on your behalf.  Many planners will pass on their commission as a direct savings to you, as I do.
They can also offer you support and objective advice throughout the planning process and ultimately save you the stress so you can enjoy the fun aspects of planning the wedding from dress shopping to choosing your honeymoon.
Planners pride themselves on their attention to detail and their ability to work with you, developing and instigating your ideas and dreams. It’s your day, they will work tirelessly to make it special and unique as you are, making it an exciting and memorable day for you and all your loved ones.
So whatever stage of planning you are at, if there comes a point where you want to take a back seat and be able to enjoy the fun parts of planning your wedding, have some quality couple time leading up to it and be a guest at your own wedding consider hiring a wedding planner.
